Simple machine challenge

Last week Friday Mr Hendricks came with his simple machine and he showed us what he meant by lifting someone up with his thumb, but he actually meant that he was going to push down the wood with someone standing on the other side. When he first told us that he was going to lift sive up we could not believe it, we thought that he was just pretending but he actually did it but in a different way, we were thinking of something else but he was thinking of the science way.

Last week we started on our simple machine and we had to complete it the following week Monday. The materials that I used to make my simple machine was

  1. Paper
  2. Cardboard- wheels
  3. Sellotape- push the wheels tight
  4. Skinny sticks- hold the wheels

Making the simple machine was quite hard because the other people took the ideas that I had and so I just had to do a really simple machine, but while doing it I felt excited making our own toy instead of buying it from a store.

This is our reading activity that we did today, I really enjoyed doing these activities because it helps me learn new things. It was difficult to because I did not know some of the answers but the easy part was searching that made things more easier, I chose to do these two activity because I wanted to give my opinion on it. In reading I am a 4A and for me to get to a 5A I will need to think harder of the question.

Himene- new maori song

IMG_4207.JPGIMG_4210.JPG

Today Mrs Maud taught us a new maori song, It was difficult because when it got to the end it was a bit faster. I really enjoyed learning new songs and it was a little bit easy because we can look at the lyrics because each of us got our own paper that has the lyrics on it, the cool part that I really enjoyed was when the girls had to do the high part and the boys had to do the low part it was really cool and it also sounded really nice together.

Clearing the logs

Today the boys from room 7,8 and some of room 6 volunteered to help Mr Hendricks lift the logs to the other side so that Mr Hendricks can mark the volleyball court for us to practice for sports camp. The boys were really tired but they had fun, the boys had to be really strong to lift up the logs because the logs were really long and big and also heavy of course.

Comparing fractions

This week we used inequality signs <, > and = to compare fractions.
On Monday we used materials. This was easy/difficulty/confusing/problematic for me because……. Using these materials were easy for me because we had to find a half a circle and use quarter pieces and third, fourth pieces to create another half of a circle.

On Tuesday we used a fraction chart. This was easy/difficulty/confusing/problematic for me because… this fraction worksheet was easy for me because the shape and the fraction number was on it and it made it easier to know how long the fraction piece was.

On Wednesday  we worked without the above.  We learnt a strategy which was …… we learnt a strategy that we learnt last term but we still remembered, we had to make the denominator the same and so that we.    The  knowledge required to solve to  problems this way is … know your time tables
This was easy/difficulty/confusing/problematic for me because… difficult for me because I did not know my times table quick

On Thursday we worked through more examples. I know/understand /need more practice/still confused/lost/ because…….. I need more practice because I still don’t understand it really much     I will do ….. Practice at home with my family to understand more better.

Football skills

Wednesday football
iPiccy-collage.jpg

Today we had our football lesson with coach Steve and we had so much fun learning new skills, for me it was the first time I had learn so much skills for football. These are the skills
that I learnt from  today at our football lesson:
  1. Laces
  2. Outer foot
  3. Inner foot
  4. Dribble
  5. Defend the player
  6. To not kick with your toe
  7. Stop the ball with you leg (which is called your sole)

When coach Steve told us to not use our toes to kick the ball but instead use your inner and outer foot to dribble the ball It was hard for me because I keep on forgetting and because I’m not really use to it. Another skill that I need to learn more at is defending my player and when I do it, it reminds me of basketball because of how you need to turn away from your defender to protect the ball from letting them get it. What I really want to learn next at our next football lesson is how to dribble past your players.
